Fans of the Old Pueblo Trolley in Tucson only have a few weeks left to enjoy rides on the historic vehicles. The historic trolleys will temporarily cease operations at the end of this month as the city prepares to start construction on the modern streetcar line.

An icy grip continues across southern Arizona with freezing temperatures until midmorning. The National Weather Service in Tucson says a hard freeze warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. with low temperatures from the single digits to near 20. Forecasters say it's cold enough to rupture pipes and kill crops and sensitive vegetation. A hard freeze warning means widespread temperatures at or below 28 degrees are expected with sub-freezing temperatures expected.

Ganze 9.5 Milen sind wir gefahren - vom Desert Trails RV Park bis zum Gilbert Ray Campground (electric 20 U$). Diesen Park haben wir schon oft besucht, er ist einfach wunderbar gelegen.

Vom Catalina State Park fuhren wir nur ca. 30 Milen bis zum Desert Trails RV Park - nichts besonderes, aber nahe beim Gilbert Ray Campground, full hookup und vor allem WiFi (26 U$). Am Abend trat Johnny Bencomo in der Recreation Hall auf - wussten wir vorher nicht, hat sich aber gelohnt...

Das schlechte Wetter sind wir nun endgültig "losgeworden", es zieht mittlerweile Richtung Chicago. Für Weihnachten sind 23 Grad vorhergesagt. Die letzte Nacht war jedoch recht "frisch", nur knapp über Null Grad - unser Elektro-Heizlüfter lief die ganze Zeit. Da wir im Catalina State Park keinen Internet-Zugang hatten sind wir sehr froh über den Fernseher für die Wetter-Vorhersage. Am Grand Canyon South Rim betrug die Temperatur um 5 Uhr minus fünf Grad. Hier noch einige Aufnahmen der Morgenstimmung im Catalina State Park...

Vom Desert Gardens RV Park ging es "mal eben um die Ecke" ins St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery. Danach führte uns der Highway #79 weiter Richtung Süden. In einem WalMart besorgten wir uns noch einen vernünftigen Holzkohle-Grill und einen Camping-Stuhl. Ca. eine Mile vom Walmart entfernt liegt der Catalina State Park, in dem wir Quartier bezogen. Der Park befindet sich nur ca. neun Milen nördlich von Tucson und beheimatet an die 5000 der Riesen-Kakteen (Saguaros). Wir fanden eine schöne Site mit Blick auf das tolle Bergpanorama (water, electric - 25 U$).

The National Weather Service says severe dust storms are bringing visibility down to zero in some areas along Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson. Winds of up to 50 mph are blowing dust across the highway and a weather service observer reported that visibility was down to zero near Picacho Peak State Park. The Arizona Department of Public Safety says no major problems have yet been reported. Drivers caught in such zero-visibility conditions should not try to continue. Instead, drive as far off the right side of the highway as possible, turn off your lights, set the parking brake and stay off the brake pedal so brake lights stay off.
