A flood reaching a height of up to 1.5 meters submerged more than ten houses in Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday. "The water rose significantly at around 4 am local time when heavy rain was falling in the area. Six houses in the Banjar area were inundated by 1.5-meter-deep flood waters," Made Herdiasah, head of Jurang Asri village , Peguyangan Kangin, North Denpasar sub district, Denpasar City, Bali Province, Tuesday.

A major quake of magnitude 7.1 has hit the Solomon Islands, the US Geological Survey has said. It said the quake's epicentre was 32.2 miles (52km) deep, 60 miles (97km) southwest of the Solomon Islands' Kira Kira in the Pacific Ocean. It hit at 8:40pm (0940 GMT) on Sunday. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake, initially reported as a magnitude 7.5, could "generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100km of the earthquake epicentre."

A POWERFUL quake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit off the eastern Indonesian island of Maluku on Sunday, seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued. The quake struck at 7.47pm local time (1247 GMT, 8.47pm Singapore time) about 132 kilometres (82 miles) south-east of Labuha, North Maluku province, at a depth of 56 kilometres, the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

A 6.5-MAGNITUDE quake struck late on Friday off the coast of Sumatra in Indonesia, seismologists said, but no tsunami alert was issued and there were no reports of damage or injuries. The quake's epicentre was at a depth of 22km, the US Geological Survey said, and was 165km west of Bengkulu on Sumatra island. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue an alert and said there was only a very small possibility of a local tsunami.

Erdbeben in Taiwan: mehrere Verletzte durch Erdstöße der Stärke 6,4

Ein schweres Erdbeben hat den Süden Taiwans erschüttert. Wie die Erdbebenwarte in Taipeh meldete, hatte das Beben eine Stärke von 6,4. Nach Berichten lokaler Medien gab es mehrere Verletzte. Die Erdstöße brachten noch in der 400 Kilometer weiter nördlich gelegenen Hauptstadt Taipeh Häuser zum Schwanken, der Strom fiel aus. Eine Tsunami-Warnung wurde nicht ausgegeben.

Officials said the evacuations were orderly, with authorities saying that the waves were not expected to be higher than one metre. In the popular surfing destination of Siargao on the eastern coast of Mindanao island to the south, about 10,000 people have relocated to safer areas, said Office of the Civil Defence regional director Blanche Gobenciong. 'Many of them walked to fields further inland, while others sought higher ground,' provincial police chief Gilbert Cruz said.

After clearing Hawaii, the waves were headed for Japan, which warned of the possibility of surges as high as 9 feet in northern coastal areas, the Associated Press reported. The first tsunami from an earthquake in Chile hit Japan's outlying islands on Sunday, but while the initial waves were small and most of the Pacific islands already in its path had been spared damage, officials warned a bigger surge could follow. Japan's Meteorological Agency said the first wave to reach Japan after the magnitude 8.8 quake off Chile was recorded in the Ogasawara islands. It was just 4 inches (10 centimeters) high. Another, measuring about 12 inches (30 centimeters), was observed in Hokkaido, to the north. There were no reports of damage.
