In my best day on Prince Edward Island, I had oysters for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And why not? Fat and glistening, they begged to be squirted with lemon and slurped out of their pearly shells even before the sun was high in the sky. Potatoes and P.E.I. are indelibly linked in the Canadian culinary lexicon, but let's get real -- spuds will always be a bit player on the plate. On this tiny island with more than 1,100 kilometres of coastline, seafood is the main attraction. So it's gratifying to see that it's treated like a rock star by local chefs who have turned P.E.I. into a first-rate destination for foodies.

New England ports see a bright spot on the horizon as they prepare for what they expect will be a record number of cruise ships during the tourism season this year. New England and eastern Canada have been growing in popularity among cruise lines, and this year could be the busiest yet with passengers who are drawn to the region's beauty, culture and history. Maine ports are expecting 335 cruise ship calls this year, up from 281 last year. Ports in the Canadian Maritimes and in Newfoundland are projecting 467 calls, 84 more than in 2009. Boston is anticipating a record 300,000-plus cruise ship passengers to pass through its port.
