A 10-month-old baby was among those aboard a diveboat that sank off Komodo island in the middle of a stormy night, forcing terror-filled guests and crew to swim to safety. No one was injured in the incident on Monday involving 17 tourists — American, Argentinean, British, Canadian, Danish, Dutch and German — and eight crew aboard a vessel owned and operated by the Bali-based Perama tour company.

A tourist boat carrying about 15 foreigners capsized near Komodo island, the best known diving spot in East Nusa Tenggara Province after reportedly hitting a reef in the waters on Tuesday (14/9). Blue Dragon boat carrying tourists from United States, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia sank in Lohoksera south of Komodo Island which all were rescued by local search and rescue service, although a japanese and a diving instructor were left injured. Search and Rescue Post Coordinator in West Manggarai Regency Deni Sibarani in his report to Governor Frans lebu Raya said "the boat sank after suspectedly hitting the reef that made water flowed through the broken hull."

Indonesia’s Komodo dragon may face disqualification from its bid to be named among the new seven wonders of nature if the government misses to request consent from the New7Wonders Foundation, the main sponsor for the event, before conducting promotion. “We are obliged to earn a permit from the New7Wonders Foundation to promote the Komodo in order to gain support for the bidding,” promotion director of directorate general of marketing Esty Reko said in Kupang on Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Indonesien: Handwerker von Komodo Waran angegriffen

AN INDONESIAN worker freed himself from an attacking Komodo dragon by punching the reptile's snout until it released him and ran away, a national park official said on Monday. Agustinus Jenaru, 20, was working inside an unfinished wooden bungalow on Rinca island when the two metre lizard entered and bit onto his left hand on Saturday, said Komodo National Park official Daniel Bolu Ngongo. Mr Jenaru hit the jaws of the giant lizard for several seconds until it freed him. Mr Jenaru was taken to a clinic for treatment of lacerations and a puncture wound.

Indonesien: Komodo Warane auf dem Weg nach Ungarn

Today, February 10, local zoo in Jakarta Ragunanhas sent a pair of Komodos to a zoo in Hungary Sosto. The rare animals from East Nusa Tenggara were flown from Soekarno-Hatta airport at 10am. The Komodos are a male named Bagol (weighs 125 kg) and a female named Indri (weighs 80 kg). Both are 11 years old.
