Mojave Desert - Preserve
The Mojave National Preserve is regarded as the meeting place for three of the four great American deserts - the Sonoran, Mojave and Great Basin. The geology of each of these deserts plays a role in the human story of this rarely seen desert wonderland. Miners, cattle ranchers, railroad speculators and wagons westward bound each attempted to survive here, probably coming by way of a Native American trail known now as the Mojave Road. They saw strange volcanic features, towering sand dunes and the largest Joshua tree forest in the world. Nearly half of the preserve is designated as wilderness.
